Goffredo Mameli wrote the national anthem of Italy in 1847 but it didn't become the official anthem until 1946. Goffredo fought against the French in Rome and two years after he wrote the anthem he died due to a war injury, he was 22 years old. Here is a link to see Italy's National Anthem.
